It has already been mentioned several times that the parents must have signed releases so there children could spend several weeks away from home without supervision.
Now the parents are upset that minor accidents happened. PERHAPS the children should now stay at home while the parents live without running water, electricity and the other utilities we deem necessary for our lives.
Let's see how well the parents get along and function as a social group under a microscope.
I have a 10 year old, and I don't think that this is abuse. He doesn't know what it is like to do a hard days work. When we were kids we didn't have TVs or Video Games. We had to learn how to enteract with other children and to become independent. Kids these days don't have any idea how it was to work for what you wanted or what you need to do to survive. Im not saying throw them out in the wild. I am very sure that CBS had medical supervision on the set. If not they would be looking at a lawsuit.. Every parent that had there child there had to sign a bunch of papers and they were very aware what was going to happen on the set. And I am sure that CBS has there ass covered.. They do a lot of research on these show before they can do them. So relax it is only TV and they can only do so much, THEY DO HAVE TO HAVE SUPERVISION. And CBS knows that ,just look at Survivor at how when somebody gets hurt the medic shows up out of nowhere Yea Right....They were always there....
Lets stop and think for a second. DO YOU THINK THAT THE CHILDERN IN THE 1700 TO 1900 ALWAYS HAD SUPERVISION, "I THINK NOT" if more kids learned the value of what these childern learned from this experience then MAYBE JUST MAYBE things out in this world would not be like they are now, and CHILDERN would learn the VALUE OF LIFE, PROPERTY AND GOOD WORK EXPERIENCE. LIKE CLEAN YOUR ROOM, HELP AROUND THE HOUSE, SEE WHAT YOUR PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS AND GREAT GRANDPARENTS HAD TO LEARN.
Is there any doubt in anyone's mind that these parents all signed RELEASES ?
I think more kids these days need to learn what a hard life is like. If more kids now could have disipline with out some one yelling child abuse everytime you turn around we probably would not have as much violence and so many lazy kids that thinks someone should wait on them hand and foot. Kids today think if you don't give them what they want its child abuse, and some one needs to show these kids that lifes not easy and someone is not always there to support them. You can love your kids but make them stronger and more independent they wil love you for it in the end.
------
i find it pathetic that we've elevated children to such high levels of worship that we feel it's bad for them to try to go it alone. yes we have children to protect and love...but does this really quailfy as abuse? i for one feel that this could be quite an entertaining show ( i have never watched any reality TV programs)
honestly, this just makes me think about kids in say, China, where working all day etc. is actually their real life and not just some made for tv drivel.
------
The way kids are today, they need something to get them in gear. I don't know if this is the right way to do it, but they need a taste of real life. It does look like this show could have been handled in a much better way. I like the idea, but it does need work.
------
I totally agree. Kids have it so easy today, heaven forbid they learn to cook for themselves. Get over yourselves stupid parents, I will watch this program and I already believe that it was the best experience these kids will ever have. They are one step ahead of everyother kid who can do no more than video games and complain.
--------
This parents have no right to complain, they knew what they were getting their children into. i do agree with other postings that kids nowadays are lazy and do not understand the meaning of hard work, but this reality show is ridiculous. it is not a good idea to take young children and throw them in some area without supervision, help or training, and expect them to fend for themselves. this show might be interesting to watch, but no good parent would sign a deal to let their children be in a reality tv show such as this.
When I was growing up I had chores to do everyday, saturday mornings were not days that i slept in I had things to do around the house. I did not have a strict child hood but I had rules given to me to make me a better person able to fend for myself as an adult. Kids these days are fat lazy and vedeo game obsessed or their on the internet all hours of the day and night. The parents signed on for this, no one got severely hurt or died. The kid that got burned from the grease i guarantee could have got burnt just as easily at home. and to the person that left bleach in a bottle by accident, key word accident how about the father that leaves his guns loaded in the house without a lock and key for the love of god people get a hobby and focus on your lives
I'm sure there was a contract that was read and signed by the parents. Sounds like somebody wants some more money. If they thought the kids were being abused why wait until the show is over to complain? Things that make you go h!ummm
WE SHOULD TAKE ALL OF THE KIDS THAT DON'T GO TO SCHOOL AND SEND THEM OUT IN THE DESSERT TO WORK FOR NO PAY AND USE THEIR EARNINGS TO REDUCE SCHOOL TAXES
Get a grip!!! Kids now days need to learn on there own, not given everything not earning it. What did the parents think when they signed them up! It is to be a lesson.
I have three children and wish they could have done this! It's just another way for getting money to say your kids where treated badly. Any child could burn themselves trying to learn to cook

What I don't understand, that is wasn't so many years ago that children performed a major part in the household. There was no coming home from school and watching TV, they did chores. Whether you live rural or in the city, they did chores. We have become a nation of allowing our children to be lazy. SO what if they get up at the crack of dawn and don't get to lay down until dark, how do you think that this country was built. NOT BY OUR LAZY CHILDREN, and yes it is our fault. Let them know now that they have to earn something and not be given it just because they want it.
maybe CBS went about doing this show the wrong way but from a scientific point it has a good concept. children learn what they live and reflect what we as parents teach them. some kids have no clue what it means to work for something and some kids have no clue how hard other kids have it. to bring all these kids together from different cultures, backgrounds and upbringing and not only make them live together but WORK together as one and to form their own society complete with their own government and laws is a modern day version of "LORD OF THE FLIES" and should prove to be an interesting experiment. the parents knew what they were getting their kids into beforehand and have no right to complain about it, especially, after they have been paid. (Garnetdragonsue)
- I agree.... Its a good concept, would like to see this preformed in an Outward Bound situation for children at risk.
Aside from the accidentle drinking of bleach, getting a little splatter of hot grease on you is what everyone goes through if you ever want to know how to cook for yourself. These kids were doing what most kids in this country are not doing and that's learning to take care of themselves. Most of these "complaints" are probably from parents who thought their kids would become TV stars after the show wrapped up.
things may not have been perfect but come a day these children may be happy they were in this program at least they will know how to take care of themselves and may be able to help others to take care of themselves. there are not always going to be adults around after there are some thing like a flood, tornado, hurricane,or some other disaster. grown-ups get splattered by hot grease when cooking. you'd think these children would sniff what's in a soda bottle before they drink from it. i think it is a good thing to have a program that teaches our children be self sufficient. they may survive that way.
